Jet Airways Circular Carriage of Pets into Port Blair

Issued: May 23, 2008

Carriage of Pets

Dear Travel Partners,

In order to protect the indigenous animal species of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the following additional restrictions apply to the carriage of pets/live animals into Port Blair from the Indian mainland. These restrictions are in addition to the conditions laid down in the policy on carriage of pets.

1. Pet dogs above sixty days of age must be covered by rabies and other canine vaccinations. Pet pups below sixty days of age should be vaccinated for other canine diseases and must have a health certificate also including mention of the origin of the pup and stating that the parents of the said pup have been vaccinated against rabies.

2. Passengers bringing in pets, including live birds (see note) should have TWO (2) copies of valid certificates and vaccination certificates. One copy is to be submitted at entry point at the mainland (MAA or CCU). The other must be submitted on arrival into Port Blair to the Surveillance Unit of the Directorate of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services.

3. Pets will be quarantined if a valid certificate of health from the State Veterinary department/Authorized Veterinary practitioner from the mainland Indian state from where the pet is being imported, or if the animal shows any signs of disease.

Note:

There is a total ban of live poultry, eggs, poultry products/by-products and live pet birds from or via Kolkata.

Poultry and poultry products from or via Chennai are permitted, provided they are accompanied with a valid certificate from the State Veterinary department, stating the origin of the bird and their location. This should also mention that they are free from Avian Influenza.

Beast Regards,

Sonu Kripalani,
Vice President Passenger Sales – India.
